tituli – the plural of titulus – meaning “inscription” or “label” – a latin word, but used in English as well. Tituli is a means of conferring a label, inscription, or caption in order to clarify names of persons, figures, or subjects in Medieval artthe expressive or application of human creative skill and imagination in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, or in music, literature, or dance; art is created primarily for beauty and emotional power; and "holds art is anything the viewer or listener finds aesthetically pleasing.". Examples of tituli are found on the famous Bayeux Tapestry, on ancient buildings, such as the Pantheon in Rome, or at the top of a cross at a crucifixion.
