A type of ancient Roman establishment, similar to a fast-food restaurant or snack bar. Foodany nutritious substance that people or animals eat or drink, or that plants absorb, in order to maintain life and growth and drinks were served, which could be consumed onsite or taken away. Ancient Pompei, for example, had many thermopolia (plural). They were popular among the middle classes, who often did not have kitchens in their homes.
