NutritionIn its broadest term, nutrition encompasses the entire process by which living organisms (humans in our context) acquire and utilize food to support life, growth, and overall health. More and Cultureculture is not genetically inherited, it is shared, learned, and dynamic- never static
Nutrition and Culture is a huge topic in the media today. However, the information from the media is not always correct. You should gain credible knowledge about nutrition, ideologya systematic body of concepts and/or beliefs, especially about human life and culture; ideologies are inherent in every culture, but the body of concepts is not always universal or pan-human More and culture to be able to make the right choices for your health and everyday lifestyle.
If nutritional content in foodany nutritious substance that people or animals eat or drink, or that plants absorb, in order to maintain life and growth were as much of a driving force as cultural content within our choices of food, populations all over the world would be healthier and less prone to contract infectious diseases and less prone to get diseases that are preventable through proper nutrition. However, as the lessons in this course reflect, eating is about many more things than just nutrition.
Nutrition is becoming more of a concern now that people are getting older, and are dying from self-inflicted diseases, like heart diseasea disease is a disorder of structure or function in a human, animal, or plant that produces specific signs or symptoms, or that affects a specific location and is not simply a direct result of physical injury, diabetesA chronic condition where the body either doesn't produce enough insulin or can't effectively use the insulin it produces, leading to high blood sugar levels. Type 2 diabetes can often be prevented; Type 1 diabetes is not preventable. More, and obesitya medical condition in which accumulated excess body fat may have a negative effect on health; obesity is often defined by a person's BMI (body mass index); BMI over 25, and 20 pounds overweight, serious obesity is 100 pounds overweight More, which might be prevented by a proper food regiment (dietthe kinds of food a person, animal, or community habitually eats; a regiment of eating may be designed for special medical or health benefits and may be called a "diet"). Many times the information out there is simply a fad or a trend that sounds good in theory, but in reality, does not work. Some non-nutrient foods may “work” when you are young, but not as we age.
The following short video, by Professor Georgia Jones, suggests changes that people can make in their diets, nutritionally, that willa document stating how a person wants real and personal property divided after death More result in a healthier lifestyle and better health overall. We will be covering such changes in more detail during the four lessons in this course.
You can learn about, and understand better, how the process of consuming food is much more about culture and cultural food habits established early in life, than about nutrition.
