
Most people think of contemporary artContemporary art is art created by living artists today. It is innovative, thought-provoking and reflects issues of our time. Artworks are done in a variety of mediums: painting, sculpture, video, performing arts, etc. Contemporary art often questions traditional definitions, explores identity politics, and culture. More as being “contemporary,” or in the present. However, there have been contemporary artists ahead of their time—so to speak. One that comes to mind is Pablo Picasso, who painted in the early 20th century. How was he a contemporary artist?
Contemporary artthe expressive or application of human creative skill and imagination in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, or in music, literature, or dance; art is created primarily for beauty and emotional power; and "holds art is anything the viewer or listener finds aesthetically pleasing." is supposed to be a “movement” which belongs to the present. Some say contemporary art’s genre came into existence after WWII ended, but we must ask, What makes a contemporary artist? That is what this course is about. Contemporary art is innovative and different from other art forms. It is important to understand how and why contemporary art is not the same as esthetic art.
