World’s Indigenous Peoples

The World’s Indigenous Peoples are celebrating an international day.  August 9 was proclaimed, by the United Nations in 1994, as a day to focus on the World’s Indigenous Peoples, and the many challenges they face.

On this website visitors can learn more about indigenous peoples and their various ways of making a living.  For instance, the Maasai people who are pastoralists, have been evicted from their homelands and traditional pasture lands in places like the Naivasha region in Africa. This has a profound negative effect on their lives and their culture. The ways people make a living are dominant cultural traits in every culture.  Go to the Course Directory, Making a Living, to learn more

The theme for the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples on August 9, 2014 is, “Bridging the Gap: Implementing the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.”  There are many things to do to help make others aware of this important theme.  Click on the following link to watch videos and read articles about various issues that indigenous people face all over the world.  You may need to copy (Control C) and paste (Control V) the link into your browser.  After consulting the link, Explore More!
